Woosik M. Chung, MD, is a fellowship trained – board certified orthopaedic surgeon. His surgical interests involve the treatment of advanced degenerative spine as well as complex scoliosis deformity, with a special focus in the disorders of the neck.
Dr. Chung received his Bachelor’s in Science degree from Yale University in the field of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. His desire to practice evidence-based medicine led him to obtain his medical degree at UMDNJ – New Jersey Medical School, where he was highlighted as one of the two physician graduates of the future.
After completing his medical degree, Dr. Chung was accepted to orthopaedic surgery residency at Columbia University. During his residency, he developed a particular interest in the understanding and management of spinal conditions. After finishing his residency, Dr. Chung pursued his interest in the spine by completing a fellowship degree in spine surgery at Emory University.
Dr. Chung’s training in spine surgery includes the range of management of spinal disorders in athletes, degenerative arthritic spines, progressive scoliosis deformities, spinal infections, tumors of the spine, as well as spinal trauma. Within his practice, Dr. Chung has a special interest in the conditions and treatments of the cervical spine. His expertise also include the techniques of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and Artificial Disc Replacement in the appropriate setting.
Dr. Chung has a diverse cultural background, growing up in South Korea, Malawi in Africa, and the United States. He is an avid martial artist, and enjoys snowboarding, bicycling and running with his wife. Dr. Chung has been featured in People magazine as well as various newspapers, books, and interviewed live by Diane Sawyer on the Good Morning America show.
